There is a very simple principle that most of us can’t seem to get a hang of–as you give, so you receive. Some of us find it difficult to believe that it is necessary to give first and give righteously. Others have been trained to only give gifts on specific occasions, unfortunately this kind of giving is more for ourselves than for the person receiving the gift. If you only give to get, you will not receive.

We have been miseducated about gift-giving. We tend to believe that gifts must always bear a price tag or be given as a particular reason. Try these tips:

Give a smile

Give a prayer

Give your time

Give your talent,energy, your thoughts

Give anonymously without expectation of recognition

Give your knowledge and the information you have received

Pay the toll for the car behind you

Give a book when you’ve finished it

Give someone you don’t know a compliment

Because:

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done.

We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.’

Hungry not only for bread — but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing — but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks — but homeless because of rejection.” ~ Mother Teresa

Just when I think I have learned the way to live, life changes and I am left the same as I began.
The more things change the more I am the same. It appears that my life is a constant irony of maturity and regression, but sense of progress is based on the illusion that things out there are going to remain the same and that, at last, I gained a little control.
But there will never be means to ends, only means. And I am means.
I am what I started out with, and when it is all over I will be all that is left of me.

If there is a me that curses and struggles and a me that winks and walks in peace, do I have a choice of selves?

There are occasions when I talk to a man who is riding high on some recent insight or triumph, and for the moment life probably seems to him to have no problems. But I just don’t believe that people are living the smooth, controlled, trouble-free existence that their careful countenances and bland words suggest.

Today never hands me the same thing twice and I believe that for almost everyone else life is also a mixture of unsolved problems, ambiguous victories, and vague defeats—-with very few moments of clear peace. I never do seem to quite get on top of it.
My struggle with today is worthwhile, but it’s a struggle nonetheless and one that seems never to end.
The payoff must be elsewhere, and I support that it’s within that laughing heart that can surface so unexpectedly.

This meaningful poem was surprisingly written by my cousin at the age of 6…Enjoy

Kindness is a gift
One not to lose
Who should I use it on
Why don’t I choose?
Strength is a power
Defense or attack
But if you use it
They might get you back!
Love is a tough one
I cannot speak
But one thing I know, if you lose it
Your heart may get weak.
Now that you learned about life.
I must leave
But when using these gifts
God you may receive.

Many of us look at life as work. We approach it and try to handle it like a job. We complain about it. We blame others when it is not working. We hold someone else responsible when it does not give us what we want. Some of us give up on life. We move from day to day, with no plan, no goals and ultimately no rewards. We fail to understand that if life is work, the better we do it, the better it will pay us. When we perform our tasks to the very best of our ability we receive just rewards for what we do. When we are thorough in our work and put our best into it, we become better at it. When we become too good for where we are, we will be advanced to our rightful place. The things we must realize about life is it cannot be better until we are better. We cannot get more until we are more. The only thing that can stop our advancement in life is our not being ready to move. If life is work, run it like a multimillion-dollar corporation and elect yourself chief executive officer.

The better I am at life the better it gets
